Rob Ames

Soprano saxophonist Rob Ames studied sax with the great NH seacoast saxophonist Charlie Jennison, and with legendary sax teachers Joe Viola at Berklee and Joe Allard at the New England Conservatory.  Rob has also studied clarinet with Perry Robinson; piano with Mike Marra; vibes with Ed Saindon; composition with George Russell; and “Third Stream” with Ran Blake. Rob’s 2016 debut album, "Songs from the Boardwalk", features seven original songs in a variety of jazz styles, from bop to fusion. The songs were inspired by many playing sessions on the boardwalk in Weirs Beach, New Hampshire, where Rob performs outdoors with his band, the Boardwalk Jazz Quartet, on Sunday nights in July and August. Rob's second album, released in 2022, is "Hot Sax on the Boardwalk". The album features features eleven songs in a variety of jazz styles, with an emphasis on latin jazz and soul jazz, and a dash of New Orleans blues.
