Gwendolyn Hellmann

Wendy Hellmann is a freelance classical bassist, pianist, and educator of bowed string instruments. Born and raised in Fairfax, Virginia, she graduated first class with honors from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with a bachelor's degree in music performance.

Wendy gravitates towards chamber music. She began publishing her arrangements in 2019, after a collaboration with another teacher lead to her creating custom arrangements for various student ensembles. With her expertise in both strings and piano, she focuses on writing music that is easy to play and read for students of all levels. Additionally, she arranges advanced/professional level music, particularly piano covers and piano quartets.

This year, Wendy is launching a recording project of accompaniment tracks for vocalists, focusing on female/underrepresented composers and lower keys for mezzo sopranos. 

When she isn't teaching, performing, or arranging, Wendy enjoys hiking and traveling. She most recently completed a 2 month trip throughout Central and South America, which included a backpacking trip through the Peruvian Andes!
